Adults with moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis (RA), after at least one other medicine, called a Disease-Modifying Anti-Rheumatic Drug (DMARD) has been used and did not work well. Adults with giant cell arteritis (GCA). People with active PJIA ages 2 and above. People with active SJIA ages 2 and above. People age 2 years and above who experience severe or life-threatening Cytokine Release Syndrome (CRS) following chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell treatment ACTEMRA is not approved for subcutaneous use in people with CRS. It is not known if ACTEMRA is safe and effective in children with PJIA, SJIA, or CRS under 2 years of age or in children with conditions other than PJIA, SJIA, or CRS.

Serious Allergic Reactions.

Serious allergic reactions, including death, can happen with ACTEMRA. These reactions can happen with any infusion or injection of ACTEMRA, even if they did not occur with an earlier infusion or injection. Tell your healthcare provider before your next dose if you had hives, rash, or flushing after your injection. Seek medical attention right away if you have any of the following signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Subcutaneous Injection

ACTEMRA (tocilizumab) injection is supplied as a sterile, clear, colorless to slightly yellowish, preservative-free liquid solution for subcutaneous administration with a pH of approximately 6.0. It is supplied in a 1 mL ready-to-use, single-use prefilled syringe (PFS) with a needle safety device. Each prefilled syringe delivers 0.9 mL (162 mg) of ACTEMRA, in a histidine buffered solution composed of ACTEMRA (180 mg/mL), polysorbate 80, L-histidine, and L-histidine monohydrochloride, L-arginine and L-arginine hydrochloride, L-methionine, and water for injection.

Giant Cell Arteritis

The recommended dose of ACTEMRA for adult patients with GCA is 162 mg given once every week as a subcutaneous injection in combination with a tapering course of glucocorticoids. A dose of 162 mg given once every other week as a subcutaneous injection in combination with a tapering course of glucocorticoids may be prescribed based on clinical considerations.
